  • Work Your Way to Ireland Using American Records First with Sheila Benedict.

  • Family lore has it that your grandparents or maybe great-grandparents were
  • born in Ireland and you want to find your ancestral home site. To begin, what documentary evidence do you have that created their American paper trails?
  • Irish research is challenging, at best, and requires every search skill available to a genealogist and family historian. This presentation will focus on what an American researcher has to do to be successful. It is not as easy as it sounds, especially when you are working with records that are different then what you are used to here. What lies beyond ancestry charts and family group sheets is more important than you think. They are the skeleton and you need to put
  • meat on the bones before you hop the flight to Dublin, Shannon, Cork, or Belfast.

  • Sheila researches in Ireland at least once a year and in England when required. The last time she was in Dublin for a month in 2019 before the pandemic but hoping for time there in 2022- 2023. She was president of the APG Virtual Chapter 2019-2020 and now president of the APG Writer’s Special Interest Group, 2021-2022, a current board member of the Genealogical Speakers Guild, and the corresponding secretary of The Irish Ancestral Research Association (TIARA).  She  is a frequent lecturer at national conferences, and many local genealogical and historical societies, a self-employed Genealogical, Historical, and Forensic Genealogist since 1992, and taught beginning and intermediate genealogy and oral history techniques at a local community college.
