🎤 Orphan Train and Home Children, by Chris Green

  • Via Zoom

Presenter: Chris Green

The Orphan Train movement, which, operated between 1854 and 1929, transported about 200,000 orphaned and homeless children from East Coast cities to foster homes primarily in the Midwest. These baby trains lasted until the 1920s when organized foster care became available. Home Children was the child migration scheme founded by Annie MacPherson in 1869, under which more than 100,000 children were sent from the United Kingdom to Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and South Africa. In this talk we will focus on home children sent to Canada.

Christine Bell Green PLCGS is a professional genealogist and genealogy teacher at Palo Alto and Mountain View/Los Altos adult schools. She is a past president of SMCG and the current seminar chair of the society.

This meeting will be held remotely via the Zoom web conferencing system. Several days before the date of the meeting, a link to the Zoom meeting will be sent to SMCGS eNews subscribers (both members and non-members) and will also be posted in the Members Only section of this website.
