🎤 Sisters Unite! Two Hundred Years of Women's Suffrage, by Lisa Oberg

  • 24 Apr 2021
  • 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM
  • Via Zoom

Presenter: Lisa Oberg

The 19th amendment to the U.S. Constitution, granting women the right to vote, was ratified in 1920.  The amendment was a culmination of over 70 years of agitating for women's rights that begun in 1848 at Seneca Falls. Lisa will present a brief history of the suffrage movement in the United States.

Inspired by the Bicentennial, Lisa began researching her family history at the age of 12.  She was inspired by her Luxembourg ancestors but more recently by the Women’s Suffrage Movement.   She is the head of Public Service and the History of Science and Medicine Curator for Special Collections in the UW Libraries.  She has taught online courses serving genealogists through the UW School of Library and Information Studies and the UW Information School.

Lisa holds a Master’s of Librarianship Degree from the University of Washington.  She previously served on the advisory board for the UW’s Genealogy and Family History Certificate program.  She gives genealogy-related webinars and regular lectures at the UW, Seattle Genealogical Society and around the Puget Sound Region.

This meeting will be held remotely via the Zoom web conferencing system. Several days before the date of the meeting, a link to the Zoom meeting will be sent to SMCGS eNews subscribers (both members and non-members) and will also be posted in the Members Only section of this website.
