February 7, 2012 – USING AMERICA’S HISTORIC NEWSPAPERS DATABASE
Attendees will learn how to use America’s Historical Newspapers database to find original newspaper articles about historical events. Newspapers in the database range from 1620-1922. Types of articles include news & opinion, election returns, letters, poetry/songs, legislative information, advertisements, and matrimony & death notices. This workshop will assist Cañada faculty and students to utilize this database for class assignments. SMCGS Members can search the historic newspapers for information about their ancestors as well as news about the times in which they lived.
March 6, 2012 – IRISH ROOTS ONLINE – With Cath Trindle, Professional Genealogist
A hands-on opportunity for those with Irish research to explore some of the great websites devoted to Irish genealogy. This workshop will highlight government sites, pay for view and subscription sites as well as some of the many free sites that help us further our Irish research. No Irish in your family? Come anyway. Other attendees may appreciate an extra pair of computer savvy hands.
April 10, 2012 – MEXICAN GENEALOGY – PART 2 – With Lucy Sweeney

Learn MORE from Lucy Sweeney about on-line vital records searches in Mexico and other Latin American countries. FamilySearch alone has over 30 Mexican databases on its website. Lucy Sweeney, has been researching her own Mexican ancestry for years and will have much to share with workshop attendees.
